KEEPING IT FABULOUS ON FRIDAYS

Hello loves! Not entirely sure where this week, but it seems to have flown by!
I find myself obsessing a little over everything Cannes right now & although the weather over there is just as rubbish as it over here, I can't help but dream about all things French; the Cote D'azur, clear blue skies, fabulous properties...!
Chateau in La Colle sur Loup, Cote D'Azur... going for a whopping 12 million euros, any takers?
Ok, maybe not so French, but love the fabulous drop earrings: Opal Galactic Drops by Bauble Bar
In a blingtastic related story there was a jewellery heist in Cannes, thieves stole over a $1 million worth of  Chopard goods!
The infamous line from Edith Piafs song, poster via here (notonthehighstreet.com) which translates as "I have no regrets."

Fridays wouldn't be fabulous without a little cocktail... If I were still drinking I'd be making this ooh, la-la cocktail named Lillet Rose Spring Cocktail. "Lillet Rose, a fortified-wine blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscatel, has the aroma of flowers and ripe berries - perfect for a springtime aperitif. Garnishing the drinks with edible flowers is a lovely touch." recipe via Martha Stewart.

Now dears, bon weekend ma cherie!
Have oodles of fun!

LA LA LOVING...

Debonaire heart sole heels by Charlotte Olympia, a heartbreaking £545!

I'm all about delicious things when it comes to Valentines day and it seems these are just a few lustful things that caught my eye!

I have fallen head over heels (ha ha) over Gianvito Rossi's SS13 collection, check it out here shoe lovers! For the preggo lady in me, I thought these floral trainers would be a stylish casual and comfy alternative to heels and at £35 (from asos) they're a bit of a bargain, no? I love ankle straps courts, these are a little unusual and fun, especially with the contrast heel and metallic toe cap via Kurt Geiger here. The purple colour is also fab!

Whether you're staying in or going out, how about making these delightful little bites of heaven? Recipe below!
Millionaire's Fudge via Weekend Magazine (Guardian UK)
Makes 36 Squares - Recipe:
115g (4oz) raisins
1tbsp dark rum
225g (8oz) plain chocolate
225g (8oz) plain chocolate flavoured cake covering (cocoa based product from supermarkets)
405g can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
55g (2oz) white chocolate
25g (1oz) dried cranberries or sour cherries
15g (1/2oz) shelled pistachio nuts, chopped

Make:
Put the raisins & rum in a bowl, cover and soak for 30 minutes. Line a 20cm (8") tin with baking paper. Break up the chocolate and the cake covering, place in a microwaveable bowl, add the condensed milk and cook on high for 2 minutes. Stir and cook for another minute, stir until the chocolate melts, then stir in raisins and vanilla and pour into the tin. Tap the end of the tin to get rid of trapped air bubbles. Melt the white chocolate and drizzle over the fudge. Scatter over the cranberries or sour cherries, nuts and chill until set. Cut into squares using a hot wet knife.

Pretty Pink drinks... I do love a good Cosmopolitan, but why not try something a little different, like this 'Tickled Pink' cocktail?

Tickled Pink - the perfect Valentines day cocktail
Recipe:

1 oz. Belvedere vodka
1 oz. Sugar-free raspberry preserve
1 orange wedge squeezed and dropped into shaker
Shake on ice
Pour 1-1/2 oz. of Mionetto Prosecco in martini glass
Pour shaker into martini glass with Prosecco
Garnish with 2 fresh raspberries on a bar pick

Whatever you're up to on Valentines day, I hope you all have a lovely time. I will say that this Tweet from Kizzy at The Dainty Dolls House nailed my thoughts on V-day: "I don't celebrate Valentine's Day, love is EVERY day & never found in gifts, but in the heart :)"

For Mr. Perseus and I, everyday is Valentines day! Sending you all lots of love!

Best of... Beauty, Cocktails, Classic Movies, Delicious bites & Tech

With the arrival of each new month I'm perplexed at how fast time just simply flies by... If I were anywhere else in the world I'd probably be thinking about transitional clothing and even switching up my wardrobe for that odd time between seasons or going for a seriously good clear out. But I'm not, it is hot as Hades in Athens, I can barely function in this heat!!!

Anyhow, I thought i'd share snippets of the past month in tiny flashbacks with you today.

via here

It wasn't my birthday, but there were 2 celebrations last month, my name day & also my 6 year anniversary with Mr. Perseus. What better way to celebrate than with a martini eh? This one's a bit girly, the man likes his the classic (gin based) way, but for all you vodka lovers, I suggest the Dirty Martini!

Birthday Cake Martini
What you need:
1.5 ounces vanilla vodka 1.5 ounces cranberry juice 1/2 ounce champagne
Make it!
Rim glass with Sprinkles. Combine vodka and cranberry juice in an ice shaker, half-filled with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into glass. Top with Champagne. Drop in cherry. Enjoy each sip!

Meringue sandwich kisses, with white chocolate buttercream filling!
It's basically egg whites and sugar!!! I love this lemon meringue kisses recipe.
Here's a basic recipe for white chocolate buttercream, I tend to just go with instinct when it comes to playing with taste and texture... it's so damn hot here everything just melts! ... So it probably comes as no surprise when I tell you guys that I always manage to inhale everything in nano seconds once it's made! ;)

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer £5.99
This has to be my newest highstreet buy and it works wonders! Goodbye dark circles! This is also Rimmels first full coverage concealer that conceals (really well) with it's creamy texture and illuminates too. I still prefer my mac studio for heavier coverage on random break outs, but this is as good as Touch Eclat for a bargain price of £5.99 (remember to always pick out a slightly lighter shade than your skin tone!)

The Body Shop Shea Beautifying Oil £9
I love oils, be it olive oil (yes, I also use this on my skin & hair and not just for cooking), coconut oil (organically pressed stuff - amazing for both health and beauty), Argan oil (seriously good stuff)... Then I came across this yummy smelling Shea Beautifying oil by The Body Shop.
It's a great oil for the body and hair, but if you have oily/combination skin, I'm not sure that it's great for the face.... but it does absorb well, so that illuminating glossy skin effect (on your body) may well disappear in half an hour! Since it also contains sweet almond oil, for those of you who have weak nails, this is brilliant! Great for applying at bedtime or after doing the dishes everyday... your nails ought to get stronger & less brittle.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist £7
I love this (non-aerosol) product to the point I put it in the fridge each night ready for my walk to work in the mornings! It is a great refresher, smells awesome and also does a pretty good job for setting your make up. If you've just done a work out/gone for a run this is lovely to spritz on your face and body afterwards too!

p.s. If you're shopping on the UK site, make sure you've signed up to Give as you live! You'll be able to donate 6% to a worthy cause of your choice! You get to choose which charity you want to donate to eveytime you shop online & it costs you NADA!!!
WHAT'S APP
Holy banana's where would I be without this application for my phone??? I used to spend a fair amount texting photos or texting generally to my friends and family across the globe, and all I say this is just genius & even more genius because this app let's you send sms/photos in real time for FREE to peeps on your (iphone, Blackberry, Android, Nokia, Windows) phone! You can also create groups too, make those BFF or work groups work for you - just make sure all your other friends/family have this app too. All you need is Wi-Fi. What's not to love, download now!!!

Note: I did download this once before & as I have a Nokia symbian phone the application did not switch off from wi-fi/internet connection at all so it was constantly eating up my battery. I wanted to use this app and only use wifi that I had available at work/home only rather than via the network supplier & be connected all the time (you'll have to pay otherwise) and I couldn't get the settings sorted out. I If this is the case visit your network suppliers shop and get them to sort it out. I changed my network mode to GSM rather than dual mode & changed my connectivity settings too! If you are abroad, DO NOT USE 3G CONNECTION unless you are minted, switch off Data Roaming asap.
Worked a treat, now I can text mindless stuff to my friends and family all day long! Yay!

Net-a-Porter Magazine A/W Report  click to take you there!

Last but not least.... If there was one movie I wish they'd play on the outdoor cinema's here in Athens it would be this!
An Affair to Remember starring Cary Grant and Debora Kerr, image via here.
I forgot I had this DVD and only discovered a stash of DVD's last weekend. It's a beautiful film, watch it!

How was your past month for you, did you make any new discoveries technology, beauty, film, fashion or travel wise?

Well, that's all folks! Wishing you a wonderful month of August!

I carried a watermelon: beating the heat

What's a girl to do on super hot sunny days aside from take 3 showers a day? Seriously, Athens is as hot as Vegas right now, I'd imagine it's hot enough for doing Bikram yoga on the balcony, only i'm not that crazy! I shouldn't complain, I love the summer, only thing is, I wish I had a rooftop pool or lived slap bang next to a beach.

In this heat my appetite tends to switch off completely... ok, no I lie, I still live on ice-cream by the bucket load but anything which involves switching on the oven is a major no-go. I already get enough hot air from outside when the balcony doors are wide open, I so do not need and cannot cope with added heat from the oven. (I remember baking a gigantic turkey on Christmas Day in Sydney, Oz with an oncoming heat exhaustion after beaching it on Bondi - not pretty and not clever). I still don't get how normal this is for most people out here, but I guess they cook early on or eat very late at night - something i'm else i'm still not used to.

The only thing that refreshes me in an instant is watermelon. Yup, there is a serious abundance of watermelons here in summer along with drive-by watermelon trucks with loud speakers announcing their arrival. I go through watermelon like hot dinners, I eat it with feta, blitz it up for cocktails or make popsicles, the alcoholic kind.

Note, watermelons in Greece are huge, like seriously massive. The last one we picked up was close to 10 kilos - think 2 small babies or 3! I always let the mother-in-law pick as she always selects the sweetest, juiciest ones.
Right, before I get into choosing a ripe, juicy watermelon, let me share some watermelon recipes I found online which help beat the heat.

Watermelon & Tequila popsicles What you need:
  • 1 1/2 pounds seedless watermelon without the rind, cut into 1-inch dice (about 4 cups)
  • 1/4 cup tequila
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated lime zest
  • Pinch of salt
Make it!
In a blender, puree the watermelon with the sugar until smooth. Stir in the tequila, lime zest and salt. Pour the puree into 8 popsicle molds or 2 standard ice cube trays (insert popsicle sticks halfway through freezing) and freeze until hard, about 3 hours.
You can also omit the lime zest for lemon and also take out the tequila and add some crushed mint leaves to this recipe for a non alcoholic version!

Watermelon Sangria via Allrecipes.com by Bewitched
What you need for 16 servings:
  • 12 cups cubed watermelon
  • 1 (750 milliliter) bottle dry white wine
  • 1 cup vodka
  • 1/2 cup triple sec
  • 1/2 cup simple syrup
  • 3 cups cubed seeded watermelon
  • 1 medium lime, quartered
  • 1 orange, cut into wedges
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries (optional)
Make it!
Place 9 cups of watermelon cubes in a blender; blend on high until very smooth. Strain juice through a mesh strainer into a large pitcher. Pour the wine, vodka, triple sec, and simple syrup into the pitcher. Stir to combine. Mix the remaining 3 cups of watermelon cubes, the lime quarters, orange sections, and blueberries into the sangria. Chill for 4 hours before serving.

Martha Stewarts Watermelon Mojito - edited.
What you need for 1 cocktail-multiply as required:

  • 4 large mint leaves
  • 1/2 lime
  • 1 tablespoon superfine sugar
  • 4 ounces seedless watermelon, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (about 3/4 cup), plus a small wedge for garnish
  • 2 ounces white rum
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • 1 tablespoon agave syrup
Making it!
In a heavy large glass, combine mint, lime, and sugar. Using a muddler, mash together mint and lime until sugar is dissolved. Add watermelon, and muddle until broken down. Stir in rum, agave syrup and ice cubes. Pour into an 8-ounce serving glass and garnish with a watermelon wedge. Serve immediately.

Choosing a watermelon via e-how. I tend to just thump the watermelon and hope to hear a hollow sound.
  • "Look for shiny watermelons. Ripe watermelons will be more dull in color, but have a shiny complexion. The watermelon should be evenly toned. Watermelons that have one side lighter or darker than the other should be avoided.
  • Find a yellow or white spot on the watermelon. This is where the watermelon was sitting on a ground. Ripe watermelons will be yellow in color, while white means it isn't ripe.
  • Hold the watermelon in your hands and squeeze it. Listen very closely for soft cracking inside. This means that the watermelon is ripe. Don't squeeze too hard since anything will crack under a certain amount of pressure. Another way to determine a watermelon's ripeness is to hold it in one hand and slap it (with the palm of your hand) with another and listen for a hollow sound/thump.
  • Keep in mind the type of watermelon you want. Females tend to be larger, sweeter and have less seeds than males. (Say whaaaat? There's gender involved?) To find out if a watermelon is male or female, look at the bottom side and find a ring that is going in the opposite direction of the other watermelon's circles. Smaller ring sizes, about the size of a penny, are male watermelons. Female watermelons may have quarter size rings."

Wishful thinking...sigh!

Is anyone elsewhere suffering from OTT heat? How do you guys cool down without the aid of A/C or a pool?! What are you all craving in this summer heat?

Thirsty Thursday! Sex & The City inspired cocktails

I don't know about you guys, but I kinda miss Sex & The City and Carrie Bradshaw's sense of style, love affair with shoes, search for that "Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can't-live-without-each-other love" and brilliantly humourous one-liners. There isn't really any other basis of comparison out there, is there?

I used to look forward to each upcoming episode to see what the fabulous foursome would be wearing, then falling in love with elements of their style. Fashion wise it fed me buckets. For now lovelies, let's celebrate the memories of the most stylish girls in TV history, with some fun cocktails inspired by each of the characters we've known to love. There's even one for the boys!

Cocktail Hour: Delectable summer drinks

In this heat (where is the sunshine right now?), I want nothing more than to sit by the pool with my friends and sip scrumptious cocktails all day long... sigh!

image via Villa-in-Algarve.co.uk

To kick start an evening of fun, I love a good refreshing mojito (one that's made well - not too sugary or overly muddled) and a raspberry Capiroska. I do tend to favour all things sweet, which is why I love lychee in cocktails - my faves can be sampled over at Yauatcha, Shochu & Dim T, London.

I'm also a sucker for unusual flavour combination; such as the Basil Grande, which i first tasted at The Living Room, London. This strawberry flavoured cocktail has notes of black pepper and basil... seriously it is so yummy! I have listed the recipe below.

Anyhow, if you're planning a get together with your friends this weekend, why not try some of these yum-tastic cocktails.

WATERMELON MARTINI By The Living Room, London

A wonderfully simple yet refreshing mix of fresh watermelon pieces, Wyborowa Exquisite vodka, lemon juice and sugar

Ingredients

45ml Wyborowa Single Estate - Or any other vodka
15ml Gomme
Juice of half a lemon
50ml Watermelon juice
1 Watermelon wedge

Muddle the above ingredients together then shake for about ten seconds (a bit longer than normal to create dilution). Pour into a chilled martini glass and garnish with the watermelon wedge.

Super duper Sangria

image via Hostess with the Mostess

Ingredients
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup triple sec
  • 1/3 cup brandy
  • 1 cup lemonade/7 UP - add more if it's too strong or not sweet enough - note you can add a coupla tablespoons of sugar if you're using Soda instead of lemonade. Make sure you give it a good swizzle so it dissolves first!

Make it!

Mix brandy, lemon juice, orange juice, red wine, triple sec, and sugar in a large bowl or jug. Float slices of lemon, orange and lime in the mixture then add lemonade/soda accordingly.

For best results, refrigerate overnight to give the fruit flavors time to soak in. Enjoy!

Basil Grande by Grand Mariner

This recipe doesn't use Pepper - but you can try using a Basil Leaf as a boat garnish, and a grind of pepper to finish.

Ingredients
  • 4 fresh strawberries
  • 4 basil leaves
  • ¾ oz Grand Marnier® liqueur
  • ¾ oz black raspberry liqueur
  • ¾ oz vodka
  • 2 oz cranberry juice

Make it!
  • Gently crush the strawberries and basil leaves in the bottom of a shaker. Then combine all ingredients. Shake with ice and strain.
The Ultimate Summer drink Pimms (Traditional recipe)

Nothing beats a glass of Pimms on a summer’s day. The British beverage is almost as much a tradition as the cup of tea, and the British down the gin-based drink by the gallon during the summer months.

What you need:
Take one slice of orange, strawberry, (I also add a coupla slices of apple too), cucumber & some fresh mint (I tend to OD on the mint!) and add to three parts chilled lemonade to one part Pimm's.
