SPRING HOTNESS: ALDO DOES FABULOUSNESS

Hello loves! Brrrrrr, I just cannot get over the fact we had a major blizzard going down in London today and everywhere else across the UK is totally freezing, not quite the Spring I had in mind. Although it's not quite the weekend, I just had to share some Friday Fabulousness with you now! I recently checked out Canadian shoe & accessory giant Aldo's flagship store on Oxford street and it was just filled with so many gorgeous, gorgeous things & frankly brimming with fabulousness. I could not help but pick things up (mainly high heels) but had to some things back down again, remembering that I wouldn't be able to strut my stuff being pregnant with my current swollen-ish tooties and all.
Anyhow, I'm pretty sure anything here would be brilliant for updating your Spring wardrobe, this seasons collection has everything from super hip & casual to chic & sophisticated statement wows.
I love everything about these T-bar wedges, they just scream summer darlings! Reva Wedge £65
There are loads of fun cut out wedge heels from Aldo, so go crazy.
Perfect for keeping you protected from the sun
Stylish and bold coloured satchels are a sure way to get you noticed!
I'm in love! Love this spacious, studded number - this was one of the pieces I couldn't put down and had to have! Folortan £50 - also in nude/peach
Hello Cinderella, these glass like heels are super chic for the office or dressing up jeans! Darelbeida £85
My ultimate must-have statement heels - these leather snakeskin mix heels are just smoking hot! I love this collaboration with Preen for LFW - Musilova £125
Not donning heels, the metal toe cap flats are the way forward for looking sharp (although there are pumps version) I'd never say no to metallic - Bozena £45
Checks & stripes were huge on the Spring/Summer catwalks, love this super fun monochrome bag (there's more in this range) - Adelaide £55
Stepping back in time: Ankle strap checked heels - Wieslaw £85
Oh I remember when Posh pitched a ball wearing wedge trainers/hi-tops. Aldo have come out on top with a truly amazing range for spring - from plain leather, suede mix to studded velcro styles, choosing just one pair will be hard I tell you.
Totes Amazing!
Gorgeous bling is something else Aldo have done well, boasting multi chain statement necklaces to delicate gold chains with cute pendants. I love this necklace above but it wasn't in stock at the time - Bilecika £20

Sigh, me wants it all to be honest!
Have a super weekend!

"I WANT THIS JOB" - ACCESSORIES & FOOTWEAR BUYER V.2

Hey lovelies! How's your weekend going?

Gosh, it's been a while, but really, I've been dying to share part two of "I want this Job" Footwear Buyer for Topshop, since Jo has moved onwards & upwards and I wanted to follow up on what she's up to now. If you missed part one, check it out here first. You'll find that Jo spills the beans on what it's like to have a career in Fashion Buying along with a sneak peak into what it's like working for another amazing British High Street brand.

Where do you work?  Whistles, London
Job title: Buyer - Shoes and Accessories
Qualifications:
Ba Hons Fashion, BAA (Buyers Admin Assistant) at BHS 2000-2002, AB (Assistant Buyer) at Dolcis 2002-2003, AB at TOPSHOP 2003-2006, JB (Junior Buyer) 2006-2008, Buyer 2008-2010, Designer and Sales 2010-2012, Established Buyer 2012.

What does the job involve?
Responsible for building a balanced range in terms of price points, end-use, mix of casual/dressy and core range/top store. (imagine a pyramid - the bottom tier is the core/main range - the top being the design/top store pieces -smaller buy) We work on 3 hits per season - phase one, phase two and high summer or Xmas and it is bought as a collection so everything ties in together in terms of the colour palette, trims, prints, silhouettes and details creating a considered, confident and cohesive collection.
This is put together working closely with the designer and the merchandiser, looking at past best and worst sellers and new emerging trends. Finally when all the samples are back, the range plan is worked out with the merchandiser and presented and signed off with the management team.

What's your general day to day working pattern like?
Monday is always the busiest. We go through all the sales and figures from the week before and forecast the sales for the following week. (This is a huge wadge of paper with all the styles etc which all Buyers have to go through to check the sales figures/how fast/slow something is selling, I remember the first time I saw one of these and was incredibly overwhelmed) We analyse each style in terms of sales and react accordingly. If something is selling well we will look to repeat it quickly or move it on with something newer that might take those sales as long as it fits with the on-coming trends and collection in store.
If something has reacted poorly whether its a style, colour or trend, we try to amend and adjust any orders placed that are similar and pose a threat to our sales, The rest of the week is spent working with the team (design, merchandiser, Assistant Buyer and BAA)....
Chasing samples and re-working them, fitting and confirming black seal samples, confirming production samples, chasing delivery dates, placing orders, negotiating prices, meeting with suppliers, strategising the on-coming season, trend research (using blogs, magazines, websites such as net a porter and style.com). We also try and get out to shops as much as we can to look at what the competition are doing and look for new ideas from aspirational brands and vintage stores.

Working hours?
9am until 6pm but sometimes work late and when we're travelling the hours can be long!

Travel: Buying trips? What trade shows do you attend, trips abroad etc?

Lineappelle leather fair in Bolognia, Premiere Classe in Paris, Micam shoe trade fair in Milan. Shops - Paris, New York, Milan, LA, HK.....Factory visits in Brazil, China, Spain, Portugal and India. There's a lot travel involved but you generally have someone to share it with!

What do you love about this job? Any extra perks?
The beautiful product, the buzz, the lovely, creative and passionate team.
Our inspiring visionary, CEO Jane Shepherson. We also have amazing sample sales where we can buy something that's not in store yet for a tenth of the price and all proceeds go to charity.

Remi Chain Necklace £65 - I just adore this so much!

What's not so great about this job?
Not sure - its all great at the moment! Sales are good, but when sales are down its tough - as with any business - and requires some quick thinking, strategic planning and some risk-taking!

How different is this role compared to your Buying role at Topshop?
The customer is more mature with a higher disposable income so she comes into the store looking to invest in an item. She has high expectations in terms of quality and styling and is generally a loyal/frequent shopper so the range planning is really focused around this and the collection is considered, planned and phased throughout the season, rather than a rolling, monthly buying calender that is a lot more reactive to sales and has a large amount of different options.
Kir Royale Suede Boot £150 here

What you wish you'd known & advice to anyone looking to get into the Buying industry?
Hard to answer this as every company is different and the buying role can be as creative or as number crunching as you make it. Advice would be for anyone getting into buying to target a brand you are passionate about and identify with. Success can come from having good taste levels and a personal love for the product. You have to be able to juggle alot at the same time and be flexible in the a fast paced environment. Change occurs a lot due to sales reactions, new trends emerging or price/lead times making things unworkable so you have to be adaptable and motivated to move forward constantly and learn from your mistakes.

Everyday essentials:
Trainers or ballet pumps, 2 blackberries (one work, one personal), Chanel rouge Coco shine lipstick, Chloe love perfume, Mulberry diary and notebook, Benefit hula bronzer, calculator, business cards and my new LULU Frost for Whistles statement diamante necklace (online now!)

You've been a shoe product developer/designer, which celebrity would you love to design a shoe for and why?

I love Rita Ora! - maybe I could come up with the ultimate heeled hi-top trainer for her?! ;0)
 via GQ mag
Any style secrets you'd like to share?
Not sure I withhold any secrets but if you want to be the envy of everyone in your office, lectures or local pub then this seasons varsity jacket from Whistles is a must and you can get your initials sewn on - need I say more?!

As a Buyer, what's your attitude to shopping, seeing as you always work a season ahead? Is it not difficult buying accessories and footwear? Do you prefer to invest in key pieces with longevity?
It's not difficult but can certainly make a dent in your bank account! Absolutely all about investing in key pieces...buy less and pay more seems to be a growing trend. De clutter your wardrobe and invest in key staple pieces that you'll wear and love for years, Plus you save time in the morning trying to decide what to wear!

Pure sophistication: Beatrice Box bag £85

Which beauty product can you not live without?
Carmex, Bobbi Brown extra eye repair cream and L'Occitane shea butter hand cream  - nothing else will do!

Thank you so so much Jo! I hope you all enjoyed this!

FABULOUS FRIDAYS; C'EST CHIC, NON?

It's Friday, which often means I'm in need of a mini fashion fix... On my radar this past week is this beautiful bag from Accessorize's Fall collection, pretty much everything they have instore right now is just to die for gorgeous. I just love that it's big enough to chuck the entire bathroom and perhaps kitchen sink inside, chic enough for the office but with an ooh la la cool factor. (Now £30, was £40 and available in fire engine red)

When you've been away from the high street (in the UK) as long as I have, it's real easy to fall in love with just about everything you see. With my magpie vision, I spied this embellished chunky chain collar from topshop.

I also came across these super fun stickies (the Wish-list one) for the Mr. just in case he needs a little help with future birthday/Christmas presents, that kind of thing!!! No need to actually hint anymore, you can just leave those tear sheets out on the coffee table, clearly labelled! via Fredaldous.co.uk

As it's Friday, I'll leave you with this...

London, I'll miss you terribly when I'm gone, but in the words of Arnie (Terminator 2) (Yes really), 'Hasta la vista baby'. I'm sure it won't be long before I head back to the soggy shores. Image via Pinterest

Have a super fun weekend!

JUST LOVIN' IT

Two of my fave necklaces du jour, an old Accessorize chain with snake head and vintage looking glass sparkles via Zara.

Bonjour loves! As you may have gathered via Twitter I've crossed the pond and am currently enjoying a bit of time out with family and friends back in London.
I'm super excited about my friends wedding tomorrow and am seriously looking forward to going to the fun fair tonight too! I'll just make sure I don't eat too much before I go on the rides! ;)

I've had a busy couple of days since arriving and there's nothing like a warm welcome back than an awesome dinner party hosted by close friends. I had such a blast and I always love raiding my friends wardrobes when I get back and eyeing up the newness... I am just loving this leather peplum top with zip down the back, teamed with navy skinnies and wait for it... a pair of leopard print Louboutins!
There's only one gal whose shoe closet is more enviable than Kim Kardashian's and that's my gal J - former Shoe Buyer for Tophop from the "I Want This Job" series. I must do a part deux with her since she has moved on up big time, now in the role of Accessories, Jewellery and Footwear Buyer! She also gets to work with a fashion legend too, but I won't spill the beans just yet!

 Mmmm, yummy, bruschetta...
So many beautiful photographs and framed images fill the home, but I found one wall and this particular frame that I fell in love with. I really do have a soft spot for butterflies... I just love the colours and their beauty.

During the day the Mr. & I went for a long walk with my folks to Richmond Park, the largest of 8 Royal Parks, this little snippet is from Pembroke Lodge. We also got to see plenty of deer running wild or just chilling by the roads, hence the super slow speed limit. I miss this place dearly as I remember dragging my sledge out during winter and sliding down the slopes like a crazy kid.
 Mr. Squirrel saying hello!
Sundown at the lock over the River Thames... gorgeous isn't it?

I hope you've all had a good working week, now enjoy the weekend darlings & London Fashion Week!

LUSTING AFTER... RACHEL ZOE'S NEIMAN MARCUS JEWELLERY COLLECTION

Rachel Zoe Love me knot bracelet

Welcome to the new week lovelies, I trust you all had a blast watching the Olympics Closing Ceremony! I practically squealed with delight (cue jumping up and down like a teenager) when the Spice Girls came on! (I know a bit sad but it was a bit awesome!). Major respect for Gary Barlow of Take That who braved it and performed last night too... bless him, it must have been really difficult considering he was still mourning the loss of his baby girl. Anyhoos, there were so many brilliant parts to the ceremony, from the Mighty Supermodels in Gold, Emile Sandes beautiful performance of "Read all About it", plus it was so lovely seeing the flashback of images, families of athletes who had won... to Boris Johnson dancing... absolutely hilarious (still wish he'd arrived by jetpack to hand over the Olympics to Rio though)!!! Can't believe it's all over already, what next?

* * * * * * * *

I'm pretty sure you're all familiar with who Rachel Zoe is right? Stylist to the stars, Fashion Designer, Reality Star, er BFF's with Marc Jacobs & Co... Well we can add Jewellery Designer to the list of many talents this lady has and believe me, I was not disappointed with the new collection for Neiman Marcus. Check it out, there's enough bling and statement pieces to make any girl happy!

Having watched endless episodes of The Rachel Zoe Project, we know she has great taste, style, a penchant for anything uber glam/sparkly and a mah-jor love for Chanel and vintage jewellery, so it comes as no surprise that her collection embraces all of that and a little more.

Love the Art Deco inspired references, I feel a little 'Great Gatsby' vibe going on, don't you? (Why is the movie being moved to next Summer, infuriating much?) If there was one piece you'd indulge in, what would it be? I do love a little statement making costume jewellery, hmmm I think I quite fancy the wide crystal bracelet...

Well, that's all for now kids, still working on and playing around with the blog, thanks ever so much for your comments & being patient! Please ignore the fact that I have repetitive stuff on here - still playing around with the html. Ta ta loves!

Rock on this week! καλή εβδομάδα!

  • I can get over how many Tweeted WHY the Greek National Anthem was played, like seriously? History/Ancient Olympic Games
  • For full Olympics Closing Ceremony Playlist check it out here.
  • Mr. Perseus made me laugh, big time last week when we were watching  Ennis win Gold for GB... He pulled a "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" on me and asked if I knew that the word 'Heptathalon' was from the Greek Words hepta (meaning seven) and athalon (meaning contest). Me: of course I knew that!

Hot under the collar: Jewellery Love

Kiki Kang (above) looks beyond amazing in the editorial for Madame Figaro China, no?  I'm loving, no dying over everything in this entire look. Shot by Charlies Guo via here.

Whenever I get those "I don't have anything to wear' moments, I opt for one of my fail safe uniforms of plain t-shirt or sleeveless vest top, jeans (coloured or plain), heels and a serious whopper of a necklace. The bolder the better, I say... better still,  I even layer a few different pieces together for a dramatic look sometimes (especially when I think I'm channelling Miroslava Duma - below).

Miroslava Duma collage via Dashion Mouse Blog

Need some inspiration, how about these gorgeous pieces to get you hot under the collar? I'm a sucker for Mawi, Dannijo and Lanvin's statement jewellery pieces... Might need to win the lottery to score some of their gorgeous bling though.

 1. Mawi Hexagon foil & hammered Necklace 2. Lanvin Sworovski cord & chain necklace via Net a Porter 3. Nikola Gold Collar necklace via New Look (£15) 4. Brass collar via asos (€24)

3. Oahu beaded necklace by Dannijo 4. Pink beaded necklace £16 via River Island

What are your favourite go-to pieces when wanting to make a statement or simply dressing up an otherwise simple outfit?
